Ospreys at Patuxent River

One of the last juvie ospreys still around is squawking about something. He loves using that old dead oak tree branch at top of the river bank.
Was very cloudy both times I saw him through the window. Pictures are hazy, but didn't stop our boy from finding some fish...
Suppertime....
Spotted this "mystery " bird flying with a fish from a 2-story tower while searching the marsh for wildflowers. Wings seemed so long, thought it might be an eagle...
It landed!! An osprey, maybe passing through...

PRP Marsh Plants 9-22-09

Turtlehead.......
Spotted Jewelweed, also called Touch-Me-Not. Second name refers to the seed pods exploding when touched!
Arrowhead has a spike of white flowers from July thru September.....
Everyone enjoys the Marsh Marigold that blooms at the edge of the River.Close up of flowers.......






Beauty and Some Chelsea Critters

This Monarch caterpillar liked Pepsi! Picture was sent by naturalist, Stephanie, and we saw another M. caterpillar at bottom of machine on Saturday!
FINALLY, a cooperative Monarch came to our butterfly bush at home today, 9-27, and posed!

Tiger Swallowtail--female black morph form. ID tip: note that the bottom row of spots on the hindwing of this black form are Yellow, just like the common yellow tiger. Spicebush has blue bottom row of spots.

High School Reunion 9-19

Manning the Memorabilia table with two display boards I made. Hubby found my red pennant in his garage attic!
Four jocks---Ray, Doug, Buddy and Ron under my banner at cafeteria entrance. Ray was our class president and is now in real estate, lives in Potomac, MD, and drives a little black Mercedes.
Always get together with good bud, Barbara Claire, for our Mutt & Jeff picture! Cliff and his date, Becky, won the prize for best '50's outfit!
Good buds, Patsy, who did gymnastics and was on Ted Mack Show, Mary Kay, who was a cheerleader and then a nurse, and Annette, who was very smart, a cheerleader and had brown hair!
