Park Fauna and Flora, March, 2015

Last Tuesday, one of our naturalists at the Park said that an eagle followed her car toward the Visitor Center.  Shortly, an "almost grown" juvie landed in the perching tree near our office! Is this the one?  Never seen one with an almost all white head...

 Following pics are from Chelsea "Farm" Office.  Our yearly geese residents joined some deer in front of the office.  Hope they have chicks this year....

 More deer.  In the 6 or 7 visitor group is one very active yearling.  If it runs close to an adult, they chase it away! Might be the 2 in back row, left.  Last week, we actually counted almost 30 deer together!!...

 One of the lovely red-tailed hawks actually landed! Too bad you can't really view the tail....

 Last Wednesday, 3-25, we saw some new crocuses!!...

Ospreys Are Back!!!!

Was able to photograph the ospreys this past Tuesday, although the Tuesday before was our first sighting...

March Already? It Must Be Spring!

Many birds were visiting at Chelsea Farm Office on Wednesday. Even the bluebirds!....

 Back at home on Tuesday PM, the snow had melted and uncovered little snowdrops starting to grow!....

 Surprise, surprise. Some of the snow had melted at Chelsea by Wednesday and crocuses appeared!....

 

 Chelsea's large patch of snowdrops!  Hope to get some closer pictures after they build a bridge across our muddy, "river" road!.... 

Wildlife at Chelsea Farm Office

Henry Heron was trying to stay warm in the sun at the edge of the pond. From a distance, he looked like a post!....

 All winter, the deer and dead plants were the same color and you couldn't get a decent picture.  Finally, some contrast.....

 With all the snow cover, we saw the deer nibbling holly berries from the tree.....

 Hard to see, but robins got the same idea....

 Most of the berries were gone, so then the flocks of robins roosted in our large oak tree....

 

 We were also visited at Chelsea by Orville and Wilbur who were on their way to College Park Airport Museum!....

 Here is a first~~~a deer in our backyard!!!!....
