In this wide shot of the river, the nesting osprey's mate is to the left perched on a post. The three nests we can easily see from the office area all have mating pairs. Soon, we should have eggs!

Mom had just ducked.

In the afternoon, both eagles were visible at the same time! Mom has been quite active in the nest, leading us to suspect that there are eaglets.
The male was sitting in various trees in the nest area.

Tai Shan was about 8 months old when we visited the Zoo on April 1,2006. He loved perching up in this tree and since he was not eating on his own, yet, the keepers sometimes had difficulties luring him inside in the evening.

Ospreys Fishing + March 15

Sunrise on the way to work at the Park surely chased the groggy AM blues away!

Both ospreys perched at either end of a fishnet. Easy pickings for a snack!

Eagle March 11

In the late afternoon, one eagle was spotted performing some activity. We need to bring in some giraffes on piggy-back to see what's happening!!

After the fog finally lifted Tuesday morning, we got a surprise. Now there are TWO! Our Boy has got a new mate.

The ladder is in place to install the batteries in our video cam.

Ospreys Return to Patuxent River Park

Our first ospreys were sighted about 3 times on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. In the afternoon, over Jug Bay (a wide part of the river), all the gulls lifted into the air and soared downstream, but a darker figure flew toward the bank. It landed on a post with fish in foot!!.......



Soon an eagle approached and an aerial food fight ensued.The osprey WON
and returned to another nearby post.......


Two minutes later, he moved to a larger perch.......



Our boy is back!

Eagles Nesting at Patuxent River Park

This is the first easily visible nest and is off our entrance road. The nest is located next to a creek about 1 mile from the river and office area. Therefore, we only see it coming and going (if we're working)! It is not real close to the road, so some of these shots are a little blurry, but I included them anyway.
Usually only the nest is seen, but if you're lucky you can see a head popping up as in the first picture. Enjoy
