Foxes!!! 4-26-13

How ironic that after telling our new coworker that soon we should see foxes at Chelsea farm office, two adults appeared in the front field! This one was closer to office nosing for tidbits....

Afternoon sun can get in your eyes. (all the better for camera person!)....

Here is Fox # 2 way up the field. Our road is in the shadowy place on other side of the trees....
When leaving, one fox was still at top of field. Stopped car there and she/he posed! This mystery will be are they hunting for themselves, or are some little kits around? Time will tell....

Park Eagle Nest - Saturday, 4-20-13

Approaching the nest in the PM, one adult was sitting on the right nest rail. It started to fly, but stayed on the "babysitter's" branch!  So, who's in the nest??....
 A big bobblehead??.....

 Looks like a large juvie!!.....
 What is this????....
 "It's my wings!!!".....
Next mystery is are there one or maybe two eaglets?? Have to keep watching before leaves swallow the nest!
News Flash~~TWO eaglets have been seen in the nest by naturalists!

Might Be Spring!

Bleeding heart with one remaining columbine on the left!...
 New lily was a gift...

 Crabapple, before the wind!...
In a day or two, a red-bellied woodpecker perched on our deck rail, kept looking up , left, and right. We didn't see any predators in the sky, but it had started raining petals!!.....

Pink dogwood at Chelsea farm office is just starting to open, so color is more intense....
 Close up...

Park Ospreys and Eagles 4-6 and 4-9-2013

Saturday, April 6

Last Tuesday, April 2, one egg was laid in this sparse nest and Mom was rolling it around with her beak. (picture of that in the previous post) Friday, April 5, the 2nd egg was seen in the nest. Here, male had just moved a Large stick off the eggs and he was bringing in fish and flugg!!....
Naturalists working that day at the boat ramp close to this nest saw osprey intruders there. Two males locked talons in the air and spun down into the water! On this cam screen, we observed another bird land in the nest and Mom O lunged at it, chasing it away.....
The camera was switched to the other nest in Jug Bay. The resident male is about 12 or 13 years old.
Here is Cam Nest 2, seen from the boat ramp parking lot....

Here's one of our favorite residents grazing near the Visitor's Center!....
At the eagle nest in the PM, saw Mom Standing!!!!.....
Looks like she's tearing at some food....
Surprise, Surprise!!! If enlarged a lot, there's a tiny Bobblebeak below Mom's!!!....
Tuesday, April 9
Usually now we see ospreys in the trees near the Visitor's Center, but here's one of the juvie eagles with a fish....

Getting ready to take off because an osprey kept flying by closer and closer......
Seemed nice and peaceful at the osprey nest....

In the afternoon, got a rare sighting of both eagles at the nest.  Mom was ready to take flight.....

Dad stayed to eaglet sit!.....

Park Ospreys + 4-2-13

Early Tuesday morning, this bird was at the top of a tree. From a distance, it looked somthing like a dove with a wider tail! It was a flicker!...
An osprey chase ensued most of the day. Needed a super movie camera. One pair has settled on a nest platform pretty close to the office and early on, a juvie eagle and 4 osprey flew about. The eagle left, but this new pair evidently wants that platform. If this continues, a new one may be erected....
Everyone ate in trees that day, not at the nest!....
On the nest cam, a rounded object appeared in the middle of the platform.(you may want to enlarge) It was quite orange with white streaks and why did she roll it with her nose?.....
It's an EGG!!!! Was confirmed today (4-4) that both our cam nest ospreys are incubating eggs!!! They need more flugg. It's been very windy.....
Later in the day, more meals in the trees....

Patron saint for the ospreys should be lsla, Lady, or Marge (names for the same super bird)....
