Park Bird 1-28-12

While watching the Park eagle nest from the road, a Large, dark winged mystery bird soared high to our right above the trees. It landed way behind the nest area. If nest were at 9 o'clock, it landed far back at 1 o'clock! Was it a vulture??? 

 No! It WAS an eagle! Watched for awhile, but it didn't go to nest, just guarded the territory. When my buddy, Doris, closed the Park about 1/2 hour later, she couldn't see the nest well, so zoomed her camera and got a pic of TWO heads in the nest!

Yesterday, a raccoon had been outside the Park office door before opening time!....

 Saw these bluebirds through the window feasting on the winterberry...

 BIG surprise! A pileated came to backyard tree and stayed for about an hour.He was fairly close to a couple windows. Note the large dead trunk section he chose...

 In most pictures his head is blurry due to the action, but wanted to show this with beak open. Probably getting ready to pick that piece of wood chip. You may want to enlarge.....

 Digging to China??.....

Surprises at Park 1-14-12

Sorry, these pics will be replaced soon, we hope. Sun was disappearing and didn't have good camera. But here are the two that landed above River, near the office....

 Parked near the MT nest that's about one mile further down the road. All of a sudden, eagle appeared!! Might be one of the pair seen earlier.

(They never wear their name tags!)....
