Shorty

These caterpillars display "horns" when disturbed that secrete a foul smelling liquid to ward off predators. Shorty was among the first group of caterpillars brought indoors due to cold weather in October, 2002.

Swallow, the Black Swallowtail

He emerged in his "home" in the basement and due to rain....
.....was released outdoors the next day.
