New Family Members!!!

Today, Friday, 6-28-13, we saw for the first time, Ms. Turkey with the 5 Turklettes!!!.....
They are at the Chelsea farmhouse office. Before the big PM rain they were in shrubs at edge of pond. Later, they were close to the building and started running for cover when we opened a door!...

Not Too Wild Life!

In late May some Cedar Waxwings visited a service berry tree in front of the Park Visitor's Center...
Finally, one clear pic out of 7!!...
This black vulture likes to walk the road near the Park
office, so we made him a sign.....
Mountain Laurel along the Park road.....
Honeysuckle, yum, the scent was nice...
A neat little Nessus Sphinx moth I've never seen before in our blanket flower pot.....
Young bucky boys at our neighbor's across the street! Too close to the road!!......
A couple days later, we saw one right next to our back yard nibbling mulberries!!! We need another road sign!!....
Ms. Chelsea turkey took a trot through the front yard the other day but didn't stop at the spa.....
What kind of pictures do you get when playing car tag with little foxes through corn fields????....

Growing Wrens and Geese!

House wrens started nestorations on May 2.  There was a gap in activity and we didn't know if anything was going to happen. After Mom started staying in the house we knew there had to be eggs. Then a hatch!!! Appetizers and meals came non stop by both parents.....

We finally heard chirping inside and were able to see little heads...

Two beaks!!...

On Friday AM, 6-14-13, the house was MT!!!!! And they hadn't even practiced coming out on the perch! Kind of sad~~we really enjoyed them.

The Chelsea Canada Geese
Including this pic again to show the size comparison...

 Oh boy!!   A swim.....
It's harder for the camera to see, but the arrow shows a gosling's neck in the tall grass. Mom is nearest. All the juvies were in the field lopping off the tops of the plants!....
 "We're getting our uniforms!"....

Taking a Turkey Trot 5-10-13

Through the Chelsea farm office front window there appeared a strange blob under a tree that looked like a log or even sea turtle!!!...
Feathers! It was a turkey hen taking a dirt/sand bath and creating some dust clouds!...
From the side of the house came Tom Turkey. What a colorful surprise!!..

He posed and showed his tail!!!.....
Then Tom walked into the field in front of Henny, while she enjoyed her spa.....
Tom came back to more open space and showed a wonderful display! Reminds us that a nice head dress could be made from turkey feathers which are legal!!....

Ms. Henny finally finished her spa session and headed back home.....
Into a spot of of sun....
 Tom followed along....
...and walked into the sun spot! Lovely irridescent feathers!!....
Henny stopped to nibble along the way....
Since Tom was behind and displayed his tail, he gave her a gobble!!....
 New Chelsea Spa sandbath!!....

First Sightings

This little bird is a worm-eating warbler who grazed the farm office window...
It was a Friday PM, so fixed him a room at the Chelsea Motel front porch, under wisteria. A day and a half later he was gone and the "room" had not been disturbed!....
They're Back~~~
The First of May and we see goslings today....
The adults start walking them up the road next to the long grassy field in front of Chelsea farm office......
Sun did a number on this pic, but has some interesting info. The tiny tots scampered all the way to the top of that long field. Geese are actually standing on the dirt road. Behind them is a containment pond which may be their first home. The orangish  lump on right in the grass is a FOX! He didn't seem to pay any attention to them--might be a wise decision....

Mr. Hummer arrived on April 27 to advise us to get out the feeder ASAP! He must be a former guest, as he hovered around the cord and ant trap hanging from the tree! In this pic it had been raining & we think he's sipping raindrops from the glass....
Silhouette before dark...maybe one day we'll get a photo of his red throat!....

Mr. Wren is back early!  He checked out the house and put a maple key inside!....
Days of concerts attracted a lady who is inspecting the house....
She likes it! and proceeds with nestorations! In her amazing engineering feat, she slid the long stick up from right to left by pushing it against the house. When there was an inch or more on the right of her beak, she just turned her head sideways and put it through the door!!...

In upper left, someone is Whistling while She Works!....
A closer view of the singer!....
