Osprey and Eagles' Nests 4-8-14

Our Park live osprey cam is now online;
Some good chirping, too!

Our chief naturalist said that late last week, this nest already had 2 eggs. However when they weren't tended, probably crows came and vandalized! Female now laid more eggs.  They are towards front~~brownish spots....

In the afternoon, Mom eagle appeared to be up and scanning the sky. We did not see or hear anything, though.....

Eagle Nest and Ospreys

On Saturday, March 22, was able to go to the eagle nest around noon. Surprise, can see most of an eagle! It was not very cold, so don't know if Ms. Eagle is taking a brood break, or perhaps there's been a hatch and that's why she's standing?....

In a few minutes, back down to normal....
On Tuesday, March 18, finally got some osprey pictures! Our regular boy must be back on his original camera nest...
A close up of him in Jug Bay, a shallow wide outcropping of the Patuxent River....
We saw quite a few that day feasting on fish....
Fresh catch!....

Will Spring Ever Spring??

Here are a few scenes from the Chelsea Farmhouse Office
Footprints in the snow over the ice of the pond! They were rather small, so probably from foxes...
Henry Heron trying to stay warm in the sun.....
This picture is the "tail end" (on right)of an amusing story. A deer was nibbling plants in front of the holly tree. All of a sudden, it came to attention and stared straight ahead. We looked out another window and saw nothing. Then in single file, we saw three raccoons hopping through the plants on their way to the tree.  This was all we could get on camera and the deer was gone!...
The usual deer herd......
Yes, spring must have been springing on Wednesday! Crocuses....
 The whole patch of snowdrops.....

Park Eagles

This lovely juvie perched often near the Visitor's Center. We haven't seen any for awhile, as the ospreys have come to town.
Front...
 Back...
Nest pictures are not very good, as Ms. Eagle is hiding out this year. At least we know where she is!...

Today's Birds 1-28-14

Tuesday was an exsighting day, as we saw four or five juvenile eagles.
This one was the first seen perching near office after 9 am. X marks the spot....
Another, much darker, was buffeted by the wind....

We saw a place where many had landed near edge of Patuxent River....
Before this one was spotted, we had seen two other juveniles chasing another. Might be the "chasee" who has caught a fish!....
Here's a handsome youngster who might be called "Spot" or "White Hoodie"!...
 And another....
Surprise! An adult paid a visit.....

 A few seed eating friends~~
Goldfinch who still has a yellow cast...
Red-bellied woodpecker with cardinal and sparrow....
The doves get "puffy" when it's 20°!...
