A Walk Through the Marsh 9-20-11

Near the boat ramp on the way to the Nature Study Area boardwalk was a tickseed sunflower. Hope we will see the marsh marigolds again near the River. Not too many plants blooming anymore....
Hooray! A turtlehead by the cypress knees......
 Fruit of the Jack-in-the Pulpit...
A small cluster still attached to the spathe, or stalk....
Spooked a great blue heron after climbing  small tower over the River...
Cormorants enjoying a new roost caused by the storms....
(Double-click to see them better)
 Spotted jewelweed or touch-me-not....
A hummingbird visited several clusters along the boardwalk, but was too fast for a picture...
Never saw this large patch of turtlehead before! It's near the entrance/exit of area, but must have been hidden  by taller plants that were leveled by the storms....

Oh Wow!
Have never seen turtleheads before...
and am surprised this year how long the jewelweed has stayed in bloom around here too...
Love the cormorants, they do like to perch on a log in the water, I have noticed that here.....
GREAT Photos!
Even greater, that you are seeing these things in person !!!
