River Sightings, 10-4-11

After work at the Park, took a trip to the boat ramp. Saw some vultures, a heron, and large white gulls flying and these mallards snoozing on tree that recently slid into the River after the storms.....
Downstream was a very large bird in treetop!.....
An EAGLE!!!! In this pic it looks like a spot on side of head, or wind is blowing feathers....
Decided to go down to the tower for a closer view. Probably an aster was next to the path....
A coral fungus looks like a sponge....
From the tower, could see he was trying to hide among the leaves!...
He flew down to edge of River and there was a lot of flapping, some from lots of waterfowl getting out of town! He flew out of sight with no prey. From the tower, a barred owl was heard "whooing".....
On the way back from the tower was a white turtlehead!...
From the boat ramp parking lot, got a far away glimpse through the wild rice of that bird again! He/she was back on the prime perch!...

I think that eagle was posing for you, Loretta:)
Love the sponge fungus and the turtle head flower. I have never seen either in real life. Lynn says she has that too...wonder if it can be dried and used as a decoration? I need to go for a walk and see if there are any in my woods.

Loretta awesome!!!!!!

I had found a coral fungus up at Sleepy Creek years ago before daughter was even born. It was HUGE!
Saw the 2 mallards, and did not see the picture tell after I read "On the way back from the tower was a white turtlehead!". Now
you had me think. "A white turtle"..I've never seen a white turtle??? Scolled on down and it was a beautiful picture of
a flower. I know you wasn't trying to get me but I got myself on that one LOL
That flower is beautiful!!!! Of course I love the name of it..then I counted 4 pictures of eagles enlarging all pictures all the way through. On these 4 though you
took me to heaven and brought me back to reality awwwwww BEAUTIFUL!! Thank you for
sharing and posting.
